擁有"Great White Blues Mama"封號之稱的珍妮絲賈普琳從小就十分喜歡藍調，尤其視Bessie Smith這位傳奇藍調歌手為她的偶像，1966年珍妮絲前往舊金山體驗嬉痞放浪不羈生活方式，並積極地尋求能實現她音樂理想的機會。不久，她便加入藍調搖滾團體BB&HC，因為她獨特的演唱風格使她馬上成為樂團的焦點。1968年發行模擬演唱會實況錄音的專輯「Cheap Thrill」引起了眾多樂迷的注意，銷售竟然超過百萬張。珍妮絲單飛後共發行了二張個人專輯，在1970年10月珍妮絲因服用藥物過多而殞命，結束她28年短暫而燦爛的一生。
