It`s not every day that a label hits its 100th release, but this various artists 2 disc, 3 x 12" vinyl compilation is exactly that for Sven Väth`s enduring and much loved Cocoon imprint. Rather than looking back and compiling a lazy Best of... though, this compilation looks to the future and calls on its favourite associates for wholly new and exclusive productions.

What started in 2000 as an outlet for label compilations has since grown into an all conquering behemoth that has released countless artist albums (from Minilogue, Extrawelt, Dominik Eulberg among others), EPs (including classics like Roman Flugel`s `Gehts Noch`), myriad mix CDs (from the on-going alphabet series to the Sound of the Season sessions), festivals around Europe and maybe most notably of all, the infamous club night in Ibiza.

Always one step ahead of the curve throughout that time, the label has broken new artists as well as staying true to its core family, and no one could deny that Ibiza`s sonic landscape would be a totally different beast if it were for the pioneering techno nights hosted by the ringleader himself, Mr Sven Väth.
Across the vinyl collection, new and exclusive tunes by Lawrence, Nick Curly, André Galluzzi & Dana Ruh, Secret Cinema, Pig & Dan, Extrawelt, Recognition (aka Jacek Sienkiewicz), Loco Dice and Ricardo Villalobos are all included, meaning associates old and new are all called upon in true Cocoon fashion. The CDs meanwhile, as well as featuring said cuts, also take in exclusives from Dominik Eulberg, Minilogue, Sante & Frank Lorber, Popof, Timo Maas, Gregor Tresher & Petar Dundov, Electric Rescue and one from Legowelt.

There is plenty to get stuck into here for fans of all shades of techno, from Lawrence’s deep and loopy minimalism to Loco Dice`s chunky funk via Ricardo`s tightly woven synthetic tapestries and Legowelt`s organic and forestry take on the genre.

As its Cocoon`s 100th birthday (of sorts) they have added a pair of slipmats and stickers into the bargain and made the whole package a limited and numbered edition run. Given the labels on-going influence on the techno scene, it`s hard to image there won`t be another 100 releases that are just as essential.
