五大唱片

豎笛手班尼．固德曼(Benny Goodman)，人稱「搖擺大帝」〈The King of Swing〉，更是帶領爵士大樂團登上卡內基音樂廳的第一人。西元1938年1月16日，固德曼和他的爵士大樂隊，讓紐約的卡內基音樂廳，自此不再是古典音樂的禁臠！
CD1裡第六軌到第十軌，其實是一套叫做「爵士廿年」《Twenty Years of Jazz》的組曲。為何強調「廿年」？從西元1917年Original Dixieland Jazz Band錄製史上第一張以爵士樂為名的唱片算起，到了1938年，掐頭去尾取整數，爵士樂誕生剛好廿週年慶！音樂從散拍〈Ragtime〉玩起，Goodman弄了個紐奧良風的五重奏，包括豎笛、伸縮號等標準配備，然後編製逐漸加大，慢慢走到大樂團時代的音樂，忠實表現出廿年來爵士樂的變化。
此外，這場音樂會絕對是史上陣容最堅強的超級組合。班尼．固德曼自己樂團裡四大天王到齊不說，競爭對手貝西伯爵(Count Basie)本人親自赴會，明星戰將李斯特．楊(Lester Young)、佛萊迪．格林(Freddie Green)也到場。連一向王不見王的艾靈頓公爵(Duke Ellington)，也大方出借樂團明星如Johnny Hodges、Harry Carney和Cootie Williams。換句話說，這些人組成了一個空前絕後的超級大樂團，試試CD1第十四軌《Honeysuckle Rose》，這是史無前例的恐怖組合！
