Amnesia is one of several internationally renowned clubs in Ibiza and was awarded Best Global Club in the 2007 International Dance Music Awards for 2006 at the Winter Music Conference in Miami. Amnesia was the first major outdoor club on the island with its open rooftop, now using the best technology (with a a system of 24 color lasers with the latest technology controllable like a robot for an unimaginable show; today the discotheque has one of the most advanced sound systems and uses the dynamic electronic process which function is to analyze and submit frequencies that provoke the human body to feel sensations that look like having a sound massage !), and hires incredible go go dancers for amazing performances. Amnesia is also well known on the island for its famous for its sunrise dance floor and can pack more than 5,000 people on its dance floors.

Amnesia opened in the 1970s, and survived closures and memorable summers alike before it finally cemented its position as one of the island`s premier clubs in the early 90s. In the 80s a young Basque named Prontxio Izaguirre took over the running of Amnesia, and the music changed from Led Zeppelin to Bowie, from Springsteen to Madonna, from Donna Summer to Prince. Island legend Alfredo was then a resident in the 80s, while Amnesia became the haunt of celebrities and of thousands of clubbers flocking to the island every season. This is also when dance music, new trends and fusions began. The line is faded between pop and funk. Hip-hop is born along with break-dance and rap. Free style in mixing is permitted and house is about to take over.

In 1999 the UN claimed Ibiza cultural heritage, the label Amnesia extended from magazines to records, cloths`etc. Its fame grew like its foam, that foam that names one of its most important performances. Today Amnesia has become a clubbing reference. Who hasn`t heard of unforgettable Amnesia endless parties like "Cocoon Club", "Manumission" , "La Troya Asesina" or "Cream"? Disc-jockeys like German Sven Väth, Paul Van Dyk, Dj Tiësto, Danny Tenaglia, Laurent Garnier or Carl Cox are just some of the legendary stars to have passed through Amnesia`s dj booth.

Likewise the list of rich and famous that have been to the disco during their Summer holidays is impressive : Naomi Campbell, Puf Daddy, Dolce & Gabbana, Bono, Boy George, Elle McPherson, George Michael, Valentino Rossi and Calvin Klein` the gods of fashion and beauty.
