美籍日裔假聲男高音布萊恩．阿薩瓦（Brian Asawa），1966年出生，2016年4月18日因心臟衰竭逝世，享年49歲。年輕時因為對古樂有興趣因而進入南加大進修，1991年，25歲的他以假聲男高音的身份，入選為大都會歌劇院全國委員會試演（Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions）的第一人。隔年即被舊金山歌劇院邀請演唱「仲夏夜之夢」，還在林肯中心演唱莫札特早期的歌劇。三年後贏得多明哥國際聲樂大賽冠軍，成為第一位獲得此殊榮的假聲男高音。

阿薩瓦的傑出表現，讓歌劇界因他而改變，許多原本不是假聲男高音演唱的角色，也邀請他演唱，包括《鮑利斯．古德諾夫》中的費歐多、《蝙蝠》中的歐洛夫斯基等角色。

歌唱生涯初期專攻葛路克、韓德爾與布瑞頓等人的作品，之後便展開超過十年的成功演唱事業，擔任許多重要演出的主唱。這套專輯包含5張CD，收錄1997-2000年間他在SONY RCA唱片公司發行的所有錄音，CD1收錄道蘭（John Dowlan）、康平（Thomas Campion）等伊莉莎白女皇一世時的作曲家，以魯特琴伴奏的歌曲。CD2收錄佛瑞、維拉-羅伯斯（Heitor Villa-Lobos）、拉赫曼尼諾夫等人的歌曲。CD3收錄當代作曲家Ned Rorem的《不只一天》（More Than A Day）、《水樂》（Water Music）、《來自不知名的過去》（From An Unknown Past）、Jake Heggie的《與假聲男高音的邂逅》（Encountertenor）。CD4收錄史卡拉第的清唱劇。CD5則收錄韓德爾的歌劇《賽爾西》（Serse）之精選。《賽爾西》由古樂名家麥凱根（Nicholas McGegan）指揮，BBC音樂雜誌特別指出阿薩瓦所飾唱的Arsamene一角，擁有「甜美的圓滑音」（luscious legato）。

阿薩瓦的聲音洪亮、敏捷，而音色豐富、優美，因而不到30歲便已經是世界知名假聲男高音。可惜他已於2016年過世，這套專輯也成為他留給樂迷最珍貴的記憶。
